painting: oil
In addition to the oil colors listed below, we also stock Gamblin Artists Colors and are proud to be one of three stores in the nation to stock Rublev Artists’ Oils. We will add more detailed listings about these paints to our site soon.
Michael Harding Oil Colors:
Made by hand using techniques dating back to the days of the Old Masters to create colors that are true and vibrant and paint that is beautiful and durable. No fillers or extenders of any kind are used in this premium paint, creating colors that are stronger and richer and a luxurious texture that is a delight to paint with.
M. Graham:
Made with walnut oil (clearer and more fluid than linseed oil) for a paint that spreads and blends easily and allows the true color of pigments to shine through. Locally made in the Portland area and very reasonably priced. All colors are rich and saturated. Cadmiums, cerulean blue and cobalt blue, are great values in this affordable paint.
Sennelier Extra Fine Artists’ Oils:
Bright, vibrant colors and a flowing, creamy consistency that is very consistent from one color to the next. Made with slower drying safflower oil for a non yellowing, uniform satin finish. Especially nice for glazing, smooth, even blends, and work with fine details
R&F pigment sticks:
Buttery oil paint in stick form that can be easily applied and blended with a brush or knife. Especially useful for plein air, drawing-influenced styles, underpainting. Also great for use with encaustic painting
Gamblin Oil Painting Mediums:
Quality painting mediums from a leader in studio safety, Gamblin mediums alter the working properties of oil paints to enhance flow, decrease drying time, and increase transparency and gloss.
painting: acrylic
Golden:
So thick and full of pigment, Golden acrylics can be thought of as “paint concentrate.” Use Golden acrylic gels and mediums to extend the concentrated colors and to alter the consistency, transparency, and sheen for an unlimited range of effects. In addition to heavy-body acrylics in tubes, we stock the fluids acrylics in bottles, which work especially well for tinting, finer work, and watercolor effects.
M. Graham:
A softer bodied paint with a creamy, workable consistency that handles nicely straight out of the tube. Rich, saturated colors that are very affordably priced. A balanced palette of opaque and transparent colors.
Chroma Interactive:
A unique acrylic that can be reconstituted with water within the first few days to rework, blend, and lift. Not slow drying–dries quickly to the touch like regular acrylics, but does not form a skin and harden off right away. Larger amounts squeezed out into a palette and kept covered, however, can stay wet for weeks. Interactive Acrylics can be mixed with traditional acrylics, but will lose some of its rewettable properties.
Sennelier Acrylique:
Recently introduced in the United States, Sennelier Acrylique has received superior ratings from artists for consistency, intensity of color, and covering strength. Colors dry with a velvety finish that is less glossy than many acrylic paints. One of the broadest palettes available in acrylic paints with 120 colors including iridescent and metallics.
A>2 Student Acrylic:
A value-priced acrylic in large tubes. Bright colors that mix cleanly and a good consistency that’s not runny like some student-grade paints. The perfect paint for learning, experimenting, underpainting.
painting: watercolor
Daniel Smith:
Seattle’s famous watercolor paint, previously available only through mail order. A wide range of unique colors. We currently stock more than 140 colors, and can special order 60+ more. Colors that stand out include transparent quinacridone reds, oranges, and golds that are rich on their own and stay bright when mixed; Primatek pigments made from natural earth minerals; shimmering and shifting irridescents, and a number of granulating colors that create unique variation and texture
Sennelier:
Very bright, vivid colors that dilute nicely to delicate tints. Thinner, flowing consistency disperses easily with water for controllable lines, washes, and gradients. Especially well suited to illustration or small pieces requiring fine details, bright, saturated accents, and subtle color variations. Sennelier still includes some beautiful roses and violets in their palette that are not lightfast. Although such colors are best used with a UV-resistant coating or for works to be reproduced, they are rare and lovely additions to the other vivid colors in the range.
M. Graham:
A high quality, affordable paint made locally in the Portland area. These paints contain honey, which gives them a somewhat thicker consistency, and keeps them moist, nonhardening, and easily rewettable – perfect for wet-in-wet effects, lifting and reworking. Colors are rich and saturated across the entire range.
Peerless:
Two unique forms of watercolors:
- A special paper permeated with intense color – wet it with a brush and start painting! Cut up the sheets and tape them into a sketchbook for the ultimate in portability.
- Concentrated liquid in bottles. Use for brush work, pens, airbrush, stamping, stenciling, or sponging.
Both forms are also useful for photo retouching and tinting.
M. Graham Gouache:
Opaque watercolor made the right way, without fillers that make colors dull. This paint gets its strong, velvety, opaque colors from quality pigments that are ground to a precise particle size. Like their transparent watercolors, Graham gouache contains honey to keep it moist and workable.
DaVinci Gouache:
Large 37ml tubes make this paint a great value. Clean, bright colors that mix well.
